CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL
Students of all ages and abilities prepare and perform in small ensembles with professional musicians.
Annual fall and winter festivals feature 50+ student musicians.
The Festival:
The Chamber Music Festival welcomes students to prepare one part of a three part chamber music work (most commonly a piano trio), and receive preparation and coaching from professional musicians as collaborators.
Chamber music is a unique practice that necessitates listening between the performers, often trading solo and supporting roles, to create a cohesive unit without the aid of a conductor. If that sounds like magic to you, come and listen. TMC concerts are always free and open to the public.
Music students interested in performing will find additional information here. Registrations to perform are non-competitive. Fees are assigned based on piece duration, and financial aid may be requested.

What Is Chamber Music?
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of instruments, with each performer playing a unique part.
A typical “piano trio”, which is the majority of the pieces performed by TMC students, consists of three performers, usually a violinist, a cellist, and a pianist playing together collaboratively.
Here at Tacoma Music Collaborative, we provide the ability to perform trios and chamber music pieces of many kinds. We enlist a professional musician for each role of the typical trio format, and our students may perform on piano, violin, cello, or an alternate instrument as the composition allows.

Our belief at TMC is that participation in small ensembles like a piano trio can help grow important skills such as communication, musicality, and confidence. Our participants have seen their skills grow, in music and beyond. The experience is impactful for both students and their families.
